Sched for the end of the year:

Windows Vista

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/default.aspx

Has IE7, Media player 11. The mickysoft site is going tad slow here at moment so taking ages to load pages to read about.

IE7 & Media player 11 look pretty tidy though. Media player adaptable for xbox 360 and for existing stereo set ups using media player to play the songs from. No good for me like as I u se my PC as my stereo anyway but prob handy for a lot of people.

IE7 looks like it has some nice features making it more personalised for the user.

yeah heard about that too today. No biggie there really, I think if they wanted to capture PC people for Halo 2 they should of thought of that a year ago.

This Vista is more catered for graphics and gamers and is also more of a media centre with more TV friendly capabilities, and audio options. Time will tell how it works out though, it's not scheduled till end of year time, so Halo 2 will be well old by then.

yeah cant keep reffering to XP as the new OS. October 2001 was when Tucker put it on me pc.

Am wondering if they will release a 32bit and a 64bit Vista. As there still isn't an XP 64bit Pro, least not to my knowledge besides Beta versions. So does that mean they will be scrapped? Probably not, no doubt Vista will be delayed and ongoing like Longhorn has been (prob same thing just different new name). If thats the case then there maybe a year or two worth of XP Pro 64. I've got a copy of XP 64bit Coporate edition I got last summer, but no way I'm putting it on, it's probably buggy what with it being a first release.

cos Corp is the next one up from pro.....for corporations divvot.

ie mass distribution like at a Dell factory, rather than a single users pc....so it doesnt need call up activation like home and pro do. The only difference

and you're not gonna get another release when a newer ver doesn't exist

win 98 had win 98 2nd edition.
XP got SP2
NT got upto service pack 6

meaning i prob will find xp sp2 more reliable than xp 64 corp. Plus i'm not too sure how compatible it is with software/games and whether there's drivers for all the hardware I have. Also cant be arsed to do all that change then prob find myself resorting back to xp sp2.

So if i did go ahead then i'd rather waite till something solid is out that everyone raves on about. as so far since having this copy of xp64 i've not heard anything about it from people or adverts or reviews or marketing, not a thing. so the copy i have isn't filling me with confidence to give it a go.

64 has everything that sp2 has and more so no comparison....sp2 didn't come for another 3yrs and is no different than having windows update automatically and if anything sp2 introduced more bugs than it fixed, however pretty much essential

well its all trivial as Vista is around the corner now Very Happy (well minus put back dates that will occur).

No point really trying that XP 64 out if Vista is out before the year ends. Even if Vista is 32bit it has a much nicer look to it than XP, XP does look visually dated when compared to it.

why does it look nicer?

all they've done is put a mountain backdrop (ie a vista) instead of tellytubby grass. Then they've put a new toolbar on the right hand side that is undockable and with large icons....nowt new there that hasn't been done for the last 5yrs
