This game kind of sneaked up on me (no pun) I hadn't heard that much about it in advance. As you may have gussed by now I'm an FPS fan so when I found out this was 3rd person I was put off a bit. But as it's WW2 themed (takes palces just after war during the star of the Cold War) and that it's a sniper game I thought I'd give it a go.

And it works a treat, a lot of the time your against walls or rubble and in 3d person view you'd be blocking your view because you would bein the way to see what's going on, to combat this Sniper Elite zooms the camera forward making it FPS view, so in those situations (and of course looking though scope) it is FPS. So it's only really 3rd person when roaming/crawling around the rubbled Berlin streets.

What makes this game stand out is how the sniper riffle works, normally you point your crosshair at a target and no matter how far away you will hit it spot on. This game (dependent on difficulty level) you have to consider gravity over distance for the bullet, i.e. the further away the higher above the target you fire to allow for bullet to drop in height. Secondly if there's wind you have to compensate for this too, so you may have to fire a little to the left or right.

But when you pull off a headshot or a critical shot you get a satisfying bullet fly through the air sequance (think of Korn's music video 'Freak On A Leash'. Hitting far away targets gives you a good feeling that normal sniper games dont give you because you know your gonna hit it.

A lot of this game is sneak, you could choose to takeon every German you come accross but odds are you'll get beated or they will summon up more troops. Though it is tempting to take them all on Smile and after a few attemps (handy quicksave though limited per mission task) you'll beat 'em.

Over all : Really enjoyable game, all because of the use of the sniper rifle. Each level brings up stats so you can see length of best shot, how many head shots etc. Graphics are nice, I haven't played Call of Duty 2 yet so can't compare to that, but it's along detail of previous COD's, maybe a bit better as there's nice rubble smoke effects.
