This thread is gonna be my ever expanding 'gah that game was crap' thread, lets start the ball roling with GUN.
GUN on the PC
-------------------
I can't do a full review because I only bothered to get upto 13% of the game. I got upto the level after saving the bridge and heading off on Horse while protecting stagecoach. Got to the point where a wheel falls off (when shotgun passenger gets shot and falls under wheels).
So why did I uninstall it?
Well it started off quite promising, and it looked desent. The story sketches cut in quite a bit, but that didn't bother me too much as I was quite interested in how it was playing out, and I could save whenever I want, always a bonus!
Basically it's a 3rd person shooter, and with the exception of Sniper Elite i'm not usually a big fan of them. The horse was a nice touch, until... until you need to run, shoot, trampel, jump... then ya find yer fingers all over the place. But that still wasn't annoying enough to turn it off.
The guns weren't that impressive, though it was the only game I found myself using the bullet time feature (wow not like a modern game to have that) well it was disguised as the name 'quick draw!'. If you don't use it, which I prefer not to in FPS games as I think its a way of cheating, and it just plain crap, in this game if you dont use it you'll just get swamped by 'indians...thousands of 'em'
I think one of the main things that makes it crap is the way the crosshair puts a huge red bounding box when it passes over an enemy making it impossible to miss, though you need a few shots to kill them, and they show no sign of being hit until they die.
And as that is the main part of the game, it's one of the main reasons that kills its game play. Hmm what else about it...
Ah I know why, it just wan't that enjoyable!

Land Of The Dead on PC
-------------------------------
Well this is premature, but I have a big feeling I won't be playing it much longer, and the only thing that's gonna make me return to the game is because I'm a big fan of zombie movies (well the good ones, there's tons of cack ones made by students and rednecks).
To start with...lets make an FPS game where you play an old man! Yeah great so now we move slow throughout the game and when you run, it doesn't last! With your finger constantly holding 'shift' down you get a quick skip every 10 seconds or so,well when I say quick...
The GFX I knew it was gonna be quite shoddy as its a low budget game and its a game based on a movie! I'll say no more there! But I was quite surprised... well no I wasn't the lighting and fire glow adds a nice look to the night time farm yard environment, take that away you got bland settings with crapply textured objects that have been modelled out of blocks with no more sides than 6!
The zombies! the first zombie you see, you dont run (or walk) in fear of your life, your first thought is 'hmm how crap has that blob been textured!'.
Will skip through the tedious 'get to basement to get gun, now go to barn to get key to open basement door so you can get gun' ... and just move straight on to the shooting.
So there you are rifle in hand, zombie at point blank range, shot to the head! ... head go k-boom with grey matter hitting the screen??? nope! nothing... now do 3 more shots then body will fling back and flop over with less realism than a puntured blow up doll.
So here's the routine so far... zomebie or zombies approach, walk back as fast as you can and shooot shoot shooot, move forward oh more zombies now move back and shoot.... etc You have to keep moving back as point blank shots still take 4 shotgun shots to kill it and with your slow speed and the amount of zombies approaching, you don't have much option for other tactics, besides walk round them in circles and do similar technique.
So anyway I'll stick at it a bit longer to give it a little chance, who knows he may find a drug dealer and take speed, and the M16 on the intro looks fun, so it could all change!
I have my doubts of course. _________________ www.richard1973.co.uk www.addad.co.uk |

Tom Yum Goong:
PC Game: Based on the Tony Jaa movie of the same name.
It's a streets of rage kinda game but much worse!! It looks like a game made in the 90's, for a beat 'em up it has the most limited moves ever, besides arrow keys for move around (no key config or gamepad options) you have z to jump x to kick and c to punch, and none of the moves combined do combo's. Unless as game goes on you get to get extra moves, but there's no info to tell you this, and to find out would be torture!
So we have crap gfx, crap game play, and extremely crap loading times for every 10 meters you run.
I don't think I'll ever see a worse game that this again _________________ www.richard1973.co.uk www.addad.co.uk |
