Best Games Of 2005Well 2005 was a good year for games, especially towards the end of the year. In no particular order, here are the games I liked best this year:
Men Of Valor -
Started this last Christmas and finished it early Jan '05. FPS Vietnam game. Awful save system made some sections really tough to get through which brought some right pissed off moments. If this game had quicksave it would be one of the most enjoyable FPS games around, top stuff and the best Vietnam game ever!
MOHAA Pacific Assault -
System beast! Looks great, plays great, another top FPS game from the MOHAA peeps!
Rebel Commando -
Best SW game I've ever played, FPS action taking the role of a clone trooper.
Swat 4 -
A tactical FPS game where you take command of your squad, each level a seperate mission. Nice bite size playable levels. Some of the end levels are solid, taking many repeats to complete. Nice looking game, and plays great. One of the best games of this year for me.
Cold Fear -
It's the setting and theme that I like about this best rather than the game play. See full review.
Pariah -
An FPS that kinda sneaked its way onto the scene, I'm still not sure many people know about this one. Imagine Unreal 2 or Halo campaign. It kinda looks like that, best feature about this game was the way you can upgrade the functionality of your weapons by spending pick ups you find, then choosing how you want to spend them in the way it mods your guns.
Area 51 -
See full review. Nice FPS with very imaginitive level designs. End level designs reminds me of Unreal 2's end level designs of inside alien crafts. But instead of going 'ah yeah been done before', it was the same 'whoaa' factor again.
Battlefield 2 & Special Forces Add On Pack
This is more of a multiplay game which I've not had chance to play. But the single player missions are a lot of fun, and some can be really challenging to complete (if played on expert level). BF2 looks good and there's not that many modern day FPS games with real guns, if they arn't WW2 or Vietnam it's futuristic or near future games with guns that don't exist or have some alien twist to it to take reality away. So for me this is the only real present day FPS game out there thats really good. Some of the missions look just like the modern battles that were used to seeing on the news or inthe movie 'Black Hawk Down'. The expansion pack doesn't add much for single players and the best maps are onthe original BF2. Good game to have to keep going back to for a quick blast.
Sniper Elite -
Best 3rd person shooter ever! See full review thread.
Fear -
Best FPS AI ever! See full review thread.
Need For SPeed Most Wanted -
I've not quite finished this yet . But it's the best NFS game so far, I've said that for the last 3 releases but this just pisses all over the others.
Well thats my review of the games for 2005, besides my favorite for the year which I have to say is Quake 4. I would of picked FEAR as that has the main elements for an FPS, that being 'the right feel of movement, the feel and power of the guns and the enemies AI and movement, but it had too few environment settings and same repeated cloned army to fight.
Quake 4, although didnt have the AI and movement of FEAR's enemies, it had amazing settings, a variety of enemies, excellent guns, good feel of movement and speed, so it just to say won in my eyes. (though just like t say the human type enemy in Quake 4 the stroggs, did have some good movment and AI similar to FEAR's, but not quite as good, plus those enemies arn't in it as much to make them stand out). For my full Q4 review visit the thread.
I've just stared playing Call Of Duty 2, and going by what I've seen so far and by their previous games this too could be a contender for 2005's best.
So what are your fave games of the year? Xbox players please state yours too (Which is basically all of you, I don't think there
s any PC gamers on this forum yet?)

Well COD2 is complete, I dunno if it knocks Quake 4 off the top spot or not, but it's very good!
The two FPS themes are so different it's hard which to like best, they both play very well, though Quake 4 does have the advantage of your platoon not getting in the way which COD2 did from time to time, and in COD2 sometimes you'd have to look at them to make sure they weren't one of your guys, and some cases you'd only know when they start shooting you as some uniforms look similar from one another (unless your a War Historian and know every outfit for several armies and their weather conditions). And of course in Quake 4 this was nor a problem as the enemy were aliens!
I think in order my top 5 were:
Quake 4
COD2
FEAR
Sniper Elite
NFS Most Wanted
What's everyone elses fave games of the year (regardless of platform)
