Took my time to complete this one. Stared it in October took a break for better games and now finished it off.

Soo from the begining, the intro screen with the Hut looks great, and casting mind back to the psx evil dead circa 2001/2 that too had a great looking intro and voice by Bruce cambell. Unfortunately that game wasn't too good with it's old style isometric view.

Style : 3rd person slash n hack.

The game starts off in the hut, the hut looks good, Ash looks great the surroundings look fine. It looks to be a winner!

But before you know it your no longer in the hut, and I was dissapointed, I like the hut, to me Evil Dead is the hut in the woods! Anyway you then head to a psychiatric ward and from there you end up in quite a few 'zones'. I say zones because once you complete a section e.g. the graveyard or the swamps or the mines or the town etc you then see a map (loading screen) and then voila! your in the next zone.

The levels are kinda typical, you kinda sense a ticking off list of places, although not part of the normal Evil Dead movie world, but more the kinda places you expect to show up in a video game. The GFX arn't outstanding, there's nothing revolutionary about them, but they look ok, though nothing you wouldnt have seen upto 4 years ago.

What makes the game good? Ash also has a side kick that isn't in the movies 'sam' a little undead guy that helps you on your quest (to hunt down the mad Dr who has the necronomican) Sam is also the director of the Evil Dead movies, so he also has the voice part for him. And throughout the game Ash and Sam are constantly annoying each other with remarks. You can also posses Sam now and then to do little missions. And also kick him which is handy to make him attack people. A nice touch of the game is how you attack, left mouse button is shotgun, so left arm, and right mouse button is chainsaw. And there's a few combo's you can do with the weapons, and you can also rotate weapons for each arm e.g. chainsaw to harpoon to flamethrower, and other arm shotgun to supershotgun to pistol.

And Whats naff about the game?

The 'target' button that won't always target to the person you want to go too. Not too annoying for first half of game but there's parts towards end and very end that this can cause real annoyance and death because you end up getting killed by the one you meant to aim at but didn't.

Combine that annoyance with the rotating camea problem you often find in 3rd person games. Arghhhh. The end level boss was really hard to do because of this, one of the tactics is to kick sam onto the necronomican so the final boss cant recharge his health, and aiming to kick Sam rarely goes onto the book, so the big boss guy keeps geting fully charged!

The saving points could of had a few more places to save your progress too. Can be annoying repeating sections or waiting to get so far before you turn off, but that's a minor flaw.

So really there's only two faults to the game, if they were ironed out then this would be a really fun game. Again like Stubbs it's the comedy value that makes it good, that and an Evil Dead game hasn't been done this well before. Strip all that away and you'd have a regular slash and hack.

Oh and the harpoon gun is the best part of the game, firing it, reeling them in, then blow them apart with shotgun, classic combo Very Happy
